As I am dealing with mystical follicles, I thought it would be fun to search for quotations about folly. Lots of good ‘uns, but these five are my favourite because my twisted reproduction-obsessed mind can read a double meaning.
At times it is folly to hasten, at other times to delay. The wise do everything in its proper time.
– Ovid
Ovid is clearly discussing the time it takes various follicles to grow, and concludes the best ones will develop quite nicely as they are ready.
There is no greater folly in the world than for a man to despair.
– Miguel de Cervantes
What Cervantes really meant was that there’s no point worrying about one’s reproductive state when there are great follicles a-growing.
The best plan is to profit by the folly of others.
– Pliny the Elder
Pliny the Elder was a visionary, a man before his time: when all else fails, turn to egg donation.
Look at market fluctuations as your friend rather than your enemy; profit from folly rather than participate in it.
– Warren Buffett
This is solid advice: when your transfer is delayed, use the time to build up a lining and enjoy things you hopefully won’t be able to have for nine months, like ham, soft cheese, and decaf coffee.
One man’s folly is another man’s wife.
– Helen Rowland
Uh, clearly she meant to say One woman’s follies are another woman’s babies, like, hello?!
However, my favourite quotation this week is the one from the nurse yesterday:
Nellie is responding faster now. Yesterday she had 40 follicles with the top five measuring 12-15mm. She will be seen again on Fri.
Forty follicles all growing nicely, we are in good shape! Allowing for a 20% attrition rate for follicles containing eggs, and then another 20% for eggs that are mature, that means we should hopefully end up with 25-26 eggs that can be fertilised. After Nellie’s appointment tomorrow (Friday), I will make an appointment for an extra ultrasound (my last one was supposed to be this past Tuesday) as I will be continuing the estrogen shots until further notice.
In the meantime, I am remembering the wise logic of two friends: one reminded me that I got pregnant on my own, without meds, so my lining must be fine at 7mm on meds; the other pointed out that I haven’t done anything for #KLaHM this week! So I need to figure something out, stat. Any ideas?

Just catching up on your posts. Sounds like Nellie is doing great! She’s responding in a similar time frame to how I did but with waaay more follies and my nurses told me I did a great job (even though I worried I wasn’t and was super disappointed when they pushed my retrievals back); she is gonna be brilliant!! It’s a cliche I know but it’s all about the quality!
I love these quotes they are brilliant. You’ve got yourself a DEIVF support guide ;)
Thinking of you lots.
